“The three letters that have always meant most to hatchback drivers have long been G, T and I. But have they been replaced by E, C and O?” (www.autoexpress.co.uk) Looking back at the Ford Focus Econetic, we can see why this would still be a great (family) car today.
AutoExpress.co.uk reports that the Econetic is “one of the finest-handling chassis in the compact family class with guilt-free emisisons” – meaning this car would be great for the coming summer months traveling to the coast with the kids.
We’ve seen a surge in eco-friendly cars since the Econetic was launched in 2008, yet this model still holds its own in the marketplace. “For a car designed to offer maximum economy, the Focus Econetic requires very few compromises”, reports theaa.com. Plus if you’re a fan of some classic touches this model is apparently one of the few Focuses you will see without alloy wheels – helping to reduce the drag factor.
According to AutoExpress.co.uk, “in terms of dynamics there’s little to separate the Econetic from the normal Focus. The superb balance of comfort and handling is largely carried over”. One of the most important aspects of buying a new car is comfort with the majority of the population commuting to and from work or using their vehicles for the school run every morning so if you find a car that has comfort and good handling it sounds like a good buy.
When buying old or new cars there are many factors to consider – one of which is running cost. The Econetic plays its trump card here, according to theaa.com website, “offering better fuel consumption and vehicle excise duty in a very low band for the car's size. This should pay off the longer the car is kept, however the low rolling resistance tyres may cost more to replace, which is essential to maintaining maximum efficiency”. Concorde Auto Centre offer expert advice and tyres from only £25.
The AA’s advice on used cars is “buy with your head rather than your heart”. However it’s worth noting that buying a used car is a great way of cutting the cost of your driving as most new cars lose around 40% of their value in the first year.
